Hegarty spent seven years in the same Tannadice dressing room as the new manager and was captain of United's championship winning side in 1983. He eventually managed the club (after over seven hundred appearances for them), making way for Ian McCall.
Among the routine quotes released for the occasion Paul said, "I am delighted to be back working with Maurice at a Club which has shown time and time again, over the last few seasons, that it has the ambition and the ability to compete with the best in Scottish football. Maurice and I know each other well and I'm sure we can take the Club forward".
Together with Chris McCart , Motherwell now has a new management trio in place. The changeover has been a fairly smooth affair and it probably happened at the ideal time (if there is such a thing). They take control early enough in the close season to be able to make their own mark on the setup for the start of the next campaign.
Welcome aboard Paul.
