The artificial pitch behind the east Stand provided space for a seven a side tournament, players of all shapes, sizes and ages took part. The Beat the Goalie and Target football drew large crowds of youngsters eager to show off their skills.
The Centenary Suite under the main stand was packed throughout the afternoon. Replica strips and player photographs were the main attraction here. A well publicised rota of players made it easy for the fans and the photographer was kept busy.
Around the perimeter of the pitch players were available for autographs and there were a number of stalls. Clan FM provided music and games while the ‘Well Trust ran a couple of picture quizzes and a raffle.
Terry Butcher was around throughout the afternoon signing a seemingly endless number of autographs and smiling for the cameras. He attracted a sizeable crowd when he became the focus of the ‘Wet Sponge’ stand. At fifty pence for three throws it was surprising that the players failed to take advantage of the opportunity to pelt the gaffer!
An enjoyable time was had by all and the organisers deserve our thanks.
