One Down 37 To Go

Paterson at Parkhead
We all know that the first half dozen games often determine a team’s fate for the season and that confidence can be built up or knocked down by these results. So what are our prospects?

Although we were soundly outplayed on Sunday Terry Butcher sounded upbeat in his post match interviews. He felt that the team put ‘a lot of effort’ into the game but concluded that the games against Rangers and Celtic would not determine our final place in this season’s league table.

So the season starts for real on Saturday. The first home game is against a Hibs side which managed to lose at home to Kilmarnock and has yet to settle into the routine of the new management team. This must give our lads a great opportunity to open our account.

Of particular concern is our strike force. Goals have been few and far between in our pre-season warn up and we could probably still be playing at Parkhead and searching for the opener. Terry has tried all six of the permutations available using any two from the four (Burns, McDonald, Foran and Clarkson) and it is not clear what the preferred partnership should be.

The ‘Well fans who forked out twenty five pounds to gain entrance to Parkhead should be aware that the visiting fans from Edinburgh will be asked for eighteen pounds for the pleasure of occupying the South Stand. Too much.
