Northward Ho!

Motherwell played Inverness away three times in season 2004/5 and honours were even with each team having a win, loss and draw. The first trip was for a Wednesday evening CIS quarter final tie in September and the 1464 spectators  were treated to goals from Foran, O'Donnell and McBride as we made our way to the semi after a 3-1 win.

We returned a fortnight later and in front of the then record low attendance (at their temporary home, Pittodrie) of 1117 for an SPL game, Terry Butcher saw his team throw two points away when we conceded a goal following a corner (nothing changes!!) in the 90th minute.

The SPL split was the target in April when a point would have ensured our place in the top half but we faced the long trek home lucky to lose by only one goal.

Season 2005/6 returned six points from our trips north in September and March. Both were by a one goal margin. For our first win of the SPL season we had to recover from a Brewster opener but goals from McDonald and Kinniburgh, with a header, did the job. March brought some snow to Inverness but a Foran penalty crowned a battling performance to earn an important three points.

Last season ended with honours even. Motherwell won the first meeting but we needed a last minute penalty to secure the 1-0 victory. McDonald was fouled by Dods and Foran scored from the spot. We lost the second fixture of the 2006/7 season in April when Malpas' lack lustre side conceded two first half goals without reply. By this time the writing was on the wall for MM.

We have a new man at the helm for Saturday's trip. Can he keep the record alive?
