Livingston face Motherwell at Fir Park on Saturday as the 2018/19 league season draws to a close. There is nothing at stake but pride and we have to hope that the players can deliver an entertaining spectacle before they head off on holiday.
Motherwell have been busy drumming up custom by offering free tickets to the next generation of ‘Well fans. The noise level from the South Stand may in a higher frequency than normal.
This will be the fifth meeting with Livingston this season. The first was a successful League Cup tie at Almondvale in August but honours in the three league clashes are even, each side with a win and a draw. The vagaries of the SPFL split have produced a third visit from the Lions to Fir Park.
Close attention will be paid to the Livingston centre back Declan Gallagher, if selected. He has a agreed a pre-contract and should been in claret and amber for the next season.
Craig Halkett has a groin strain and is likely to miss this fixture before he joins hearts in the summer. Livingston managed to lose to relegated Dundee last week. If that says anything about their collective state of mind then a reminder about our defeat at Perth may offer some balance.
We have a number of players with contracts about to expire and there may be a few farewells after the final whistle. Tom Aldred, Gboly Ariyibi and Conor Sammon end their loan spells; Christian Mbulu, Elliott Frear, Chris Cadden, Craig Tanner, Carl McHugh, Alex Gorrin, Curtis Main and the departing Jake Hastie end their contracts.
Let’s hope for a sunny day and a few goals to cheer us on the way to the beach, 3-0 to the Mighty ‘Well
