Both teams had their Boxing Day matches postponed – Motherwell were rested as Tannadice was waterlogged and St Johnstone suffered the same fate as Firhill succumbed to the rain.
Our visitors are well established in the top half of the table and on form. They have won 9 of their last 13 outings but the last two results were a draw and a loss. They are in a great goal scoring habit and only Celtic have bettered them in the For column. Saints have won on their last seven away trips.
Goals aplenty have come from Maclean, Cummins, Wotherspoon and Craig and moved O’Halloran down the scoring chart. Our old pal John Sutton has one goal to his credit (and he scored for us on their last visit).
‘Well fans have been debating whether the postponement of the United game worked in our favour but few would wish another game to be added to our growing backlog. Were this one to be rained off we would have to reschedule 3 league games.
Our manager let it be known that Moult and Ripley would have been doubtful for the Tannadice game. Fingers will be crossed that they are fit and able to face the test that St Johnstone will offer.
If we can sent out the same eleven that shocked Celtic there should be a decent contest ahead. Given the relative positions a draw would not be a poor outcome – 2-2.
Remember the last time St Johnstone visited?
