With only four games of the campaign left Motherwell are in desperate need of a win against Ross County at Fir Park on Saturday. Can we ease fears of the drop and drag our opponents back into the mire?
There has been lots of paper talk from players about the importance of moving on from the poor officials’ decision in the Dundee game and the need to prepare for the remaining fixtures. Lasley: “It’s onto Ross County now and we need to focus fully on this game” and McHugh: “We haven’t been getting the rub of the green this season but we’re just going to have to get on with it and get results in the last four games” and McDonald: “"You can't look back and moan about these issues. You have to move on”, now is the time to deliver.
Skippy scoed against Ross County in October
Steven Robinson has favoured a 3-4-3 shape lately, partly due to the absence of Tait at right back but the leaking of costly goals has continued. At the other end we have score six in the last couple of outings but our inability to find the net during the one sided first half last Saturday cost the game.
The visitors got a huge boost last week with their 4-0 win in the Highland derby. As a result Inverness are almost out of the contest while County move up to 8th, four points ahead of us. They have two big gaps to fill this weekend as Boyce and Schalk are suspended. A look at their goal scoring statistics underlines the importance of that pair to the Dingwall team and their absence has to weigh in our favour.
A point would suit McIntyre’s side and it will not be a surprise if we face a team more intent on defending than attacking. If we can avoid the loss of a careless goal there should be enough firepower in claret and amber to produce a 2-0 win.
