Motherwell resume league duty on Saturday with a match against Rangers at Ibrox. Two previous visits ended with disappointing losses from winning positions. Will it be third time lucky?
Both teams are now under the charge of newly installed managers. While Stephen Robinson's introduction resulted in a 2-1 defeat from St Johnstone the new man in Govan, Pedro Caixinha, has had the boost of a 4-0 win over Hamilton. The pair have had a couple of weeks to plan their strategies but ultimately the players will determine the result.
Our last visit
At Motherwell’s pre-match media session the manager talked about working on team organisation and belief during the week’s preparations. “There is no fear and the players believe in each other”. He said that Jules had recovered from the head knock and would be available. Heneghan returns after serving a suspension and there are hopes that the rest has boosted Pearsons chances of playing.
Rangers will be without Tavernier but there should be no concern that our opponents will struggle to fill that gap. That’s an advantage that comes with having one of the biggest squads in the league. Much has been made of the playing style that the Portuguese boss hopes to impose on his team and there was some evidence of a more direct style last week.
Motherwell have come so close in recent visits, surely we won’t come back empty handed this time. A 1-1 draw would be seen as a minor triumph.
