Spirits in the Fir Park dressing room will still be high after the local derby victory. The first half display overwhelmed the opposition with an aggressive 4-3-3 shape and the visitors were dismantled. The focus naturally landed on Moult’s four goals but the forward play from Bowman, McDonald and Cadden also warranted high praise.
Louis Moult keeps the match ball
Whether Mark McGhee will elect to keep the same shape at Firhill will become clear at kick off. He has suggested that a more conservative formation may be preferred away from home.
Home advantage determined the outcome of last season’s three meetings with Thistle although it took a 90th minute goal from Lawless to beat us at Firhill in February. The same player scored a week ago when a draw at Rugby Park ended a four game losing run. Our opponents are now on their own at the bottom of the table with only an opening day win and a draw to their credit.
A second caution against Osman at Kilmarnock will force a change. Doolan will likely be supported by Amoo, Erskine and Lawless. Archibald has talked of defensive worries and we’ll hope that Moult and pals can exploit their weakness. Scully may hold on to his place in goal.
Motherwell are in better shape now that at the start of the season and there is every reason for optimism for Saturday’s game. If the players are in the correct frame of mind we can expect another three points after a 2-0 away win.
Remember our last trip to Firhill?
