Our opponents won the League 1 title last season and after seven games they are firmly established in the middle of the Championship table. They drew 2-2 with Queen of the South on Saturday and they led the game twice. Ross Forbes, well known to 'Well fans, is a regular in the Morton midfield
Any hint of complacency on Motherwell's part will be punished.
Morton v Motherwell in 2004
This group of 'Well players should be told of our record in the occasional meetings with Morton. It has been over 30 years since they beat us. McDonald and Clarkson played the last time we were at Cappielow when we recorded a 3-0 win in the same competition.
The post-mortem following the derby defeat has taken place and we have to hope that faults were identified and solutions found. The manager made four changes for that game and we can expect further alterations on Tuesday. Hammell will probably return given that this game will be played on a natural surface and the likes of McDonald and Johnson will be hoping for a start.
Our performances in cup competitions have been nothing short of disgraceful. In the last three seasons we have failed at the first hurdle six times (3 in the Cup and 3 in the League Cup) so a win at Cappielow will be claimed as a ‘cup run’! Another loss is too hard to contemplate so we’ll cross our fingers and hope for a 2-0 win.
