Robbie Neilson has been frustrated at his side’s inability to convert chances into goals. They failed to score in the last two outings and took only one point. Extra shooting practice will have been on the agenda at the Hearts’ training ground this week.
Watt and Sammon were the striking pair that couldn’t find the net against Ross County but their team-mates have more than compensated in earlier games. Hearts have the second best goal difference in the league and our defence will have to counter threats from all areas of the team.
Silky play from Hearts....
Motherwell are on a four game unbeaten run and still heartened by Moult’s four goals against Hamilton a fortnight ago. The uninspired 1-1 at Firhill last week was, in part, caused by our start striker’s freak accident with a soft toy but McDonald was on hand to save the day.
Mark McGhee will have the same pool available to him as last week with McHugh, Blyth and Chalmers sidelined. In his pre-match comments he reinforced his view that the option of playing three strikers was possible only if the trio accepted their defensive duties. It would not be a surprise to see the 4-3-3 formation tested again.
Hearts have not won at Fir Park since December 2000 and assuming we take to the field with firm intent that trend will continue. Let’s reach for a move up the table with a 2-1 win.
Remember the last visit of Hearts?
