Motherwell will take on Dundee in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup on Saturday. It is forecast to be a chilly afternoon at Dens Park but a hard fought cup tie should warm up the crowd. Which team will be in Sunday's quarter-final draw?
The teams have had contrasting performances in the lead in to this clash. Motherwell had a morale boosting win over St Johnstone while Dundee were humbled by bottom of the table Ross County. The 4-1 home defeat has left them only two points above the play-off spot. Before that they had wins over Hamilton and a fourth round replay success against Inverness.
A repeat of the result in 2011 wl do nicely!
Motherwell and Dundee last met in the cup in 2011 when a Sutton double together with goals from Jennings and Murphy sent us on a run that ended with a Hampden final. Another run, with a better result in the final, would do nicely.
Dundee brought in Simon Murray in the winter window but he is cup-tied as he played for Hibs in the previous round. Meekings, Henvey and Moussa were recently on the treatment table and it may be that Haber is given the chance to lead the line for Neil McCann's side.
Stephen Robinson has spoken of his delight at the recovery his team has made since the second half of the season got underway. Three wins, two draw and one loss suggests that the dark days of November/December are left behind and we look to a fruitful close to the season.
Main and Ciftci will lead the team and the strong running of Cadden will support. Frear got 45 minutes against Falkirk U20s on Wednesday but he may start on the bench. The back three look stable enough and with a clean sheet fresh in mind a change would be a surprise.
There will be a big travelling support at Dens urging the Mighty ‘Well into the next round. With our tails up there’s every reason to hope for success with a 2-1 win.
