Our last few meetings with our neighbours along the M74 have not been good. Three visits to Parkhead resulted in a 14-0 aggregate and it can hardly be a surprise to see odds of 16/1 available for a 'Well win this weekend. There is some hope to be found in results on our own patch where three one goal defeats suggest that we can make a contest of it.
To say that the visitors' confidence will be high is an understatement. They celebrated the winning of the League Cup on Sunday and they lead the league by eight points with three games in hand over the struggling chasers. Their options on team selection are on a different scale to the rest.
Despite all that the belief in the home dressing room will be that a sustained and committed showing could produce an upset. A chance missed at one end then taken at the other might swing the game in our favour. Home advantage is a factor and we have to build on it.
Moult and McDonald will have to be sharp and backed up by a hard working midfield. We started the last couple of matches with Ferguson joining McManus and Heneghan in a back three but a half-time shuffle had us reverting to our usual shape with Hammell replacing McMillan. We'll know the shape when the teams are announced.
McFadden's thoughts are that if we limit mistakes and take our chances then we will be alright. That's true enough but even that is unlikely to stave off a 2-1 defeat.
