Mark McGhee will have close to a full squad available and in it will be a few familiar faces. Hammell, Lasley and Clarkson were in our squad when McGhee was last charge and they will have a fair idea of the manager’s expectations. In that previous spell Motherwell delivered some of the best football seen at Fir Park in decades. It was fast and fluid and often overwhelmed the opposition before the first half was complete. The old hands will have passed the word to the newcomers and they will know what lies ahead.
Higdon scored when we last beat Celtic at Fir Park
It will take time for the squad to adjust to the new man’s thinking and it’s likely that we will see a familiar line up on Saturday. The fabled bounce in performance that it said to follow a change of leadership may help but few in the home stands will expect it to be enough.
We have not beaten Celtic at Fir Park since April 2013 when McCall’s side were riding high but the visitors will expect tough resistance. Mulgrew may be a doubt having missed the last few games with a thigh injury but there will be plenty firepower ranged against our defence.
Griffiths has already got a dozen goals to his credit and his team are clear leaders in the goals scored column with 25 to date. They also have the best goal difference at 16.
Once again a close game with a willingness to give all for the cause might be all we can expect. The teams meet again in Motherwell for the last game before the league split and by that time McGhee’s influence on the team should be apparent. But this one is likely to have come too soon and it would be no surprise to see a 2-0 loss.
