Our neighbours will come with justifiable high confidence. Not only have they the midweek boost of a cup scalp but after seven rounds of the league campaign they have an impressive fourteen points to compare with our puny seven. In addition they have found the net on ten occasions while ‘Well fans have been able to celebrate only four goals. Despite those factors the bookies have Motherwell as narrow favourites.
Hamilton have made much of the young players who have contributed so much to their recent successes – they finished Wednesday’s game with three 18 year olds on the park and one of them scored the winner. We’ll be guaranteed a lot on energy from them and matching that will be vital.
In his post-match interviews late on Wednesday McCall indicated that he would be making changes for Saturday's game. "We'll make a lot of changes for Saturday, that's for sure. There are a lot of people (in the dressing room) running on empty. A few picked late injuries. But the one thing we can't do is feel sorry for ourselves. We've got to start climbing the league and winning points."
That may indicate a return for Erwin, Francis-Angol, Carswell and Ojamaa as others lick their wounds. Whatever the selection the home crowd will expect to see a positive reaction from a team that will be looking to build on the win and draw from their last two league outings.
If we can find the fifth league goal of the season it may be enough to tip the balance in our favour with a 1-0 win.
