The teams are 10th and 2nd in the table but, remarkably, Motherwell have the better recent form. Aberdeen are said to be in crisis mode after four consecutive losses against Hearts (League Cup), Inverness, St Johnstone and Ross County while we have a win against Partick Thistle to brighten our gloomy spell.
No finer sight at Pittodrie
McInnes will be keen to see his charges stop the rot and he will look back to the seven wins in a row before the current dip as a measure of his team’s potential. Aberdeen’s ability to deceive has caused their fans much grief. Expectations are repeatedly built up by pundits yet their results almost always lead to disappointment. Their last six finishing positions (999832) show a woeful return for a club rich in assets compared to Motherwell. Our (56322,11) performance over the same period is far ahead
McGhee produced a few surprises in his first team selection last week, not least was the demotion of Lasley, McDonald and Ainsworth to the bench. Fletcher and Moult started as a striking pair for the first time and Laing, who has previously been seen as a defender, was in an unfamiliar midfield position. Few would presume to anticipate what our starting eleven will be on Saturday but some changes are likely.
Crawford Allan will be the referee.
‘Well fans who travel to Pittodrie will dismiss the two Friday night losses we suffered last season. Instead we will focus on the final day of 2013/14 when Reid’s late, late scrambled goal caused us to replace Aberdeen in the runner-up spot. Motherwell joy, yet more despair for Aberdeen. There will be no repeat of those scenes yet we might return happy with a 1-1 draw.
