Motherwell fans are hoping that the midweek win in Aberdeen is a sign that our dip in form is at an end but we know that games against Hamilton have not shown much profit of late. We have taken only one point from the two meetings this season and have yet to score against them.
Most of our support will get their first look at our new striker when he wears the home strip for the first time. Jeffers impressed at Aberdeen and he must be worth a punt to get on the score sheet. His linked up well with Sutton and Murphy and we have to hope that a productive relationship is being created.
Hamilon at Fir Park in October
It was good to see Hammell returning to duty in the last outing and it might be that he gets a starting place with Gunning returning to the bench as backup. Other than that, there would seem to be little reason to change the set up that served us well a few days ago. Having Humphrey as fresh legs when Jeffers ran out of steam was not a bad plan.
The sodden Tannadice pitch gave Hamilton a midweek postponement and while they are right to complain at the late call-off the fact is that they should be the fresher of the sides for Saturday’s game. Stuart McCall’s plan to watch them was also thwarted by the east coast rains. Accies are at the bottom of the table on merit and they haven’t won a league game since their last visit to Motherwell in October but we know all too well our old habit of throwing a lifeline to those in need of a result.
They have a few injury problems. Neil and Gibson are on the long term list and there might be a doubt over Imrie who suffered a hip knock in their last outing.
The game will be shown on BBC Alba on Saturday evening and if the team can perform anywhere near the level that was on show in the first half at Aberdeen we should be able to watch the rerun in the knowledge that home win will unfold – 2-0 to the Mighty ‘Well.
Remember the last time Accies were at Fir Park?
