Anything but a win will all but end our chance of finishing the season in fourth place. St Johnstone already have a two point advantage and with only two fixtures to follow the need for a positive result on Saturday is clear.
The Fast Track appeal against Lasley's red card will not be held until 12 May (thanks to the May Day holiday) so the captain will be available. Sadly Hammell has to serve a one match ban and he can keep the suspended manager company in the Phil O'Donnell stand. Chalmers is the obvious replacement.
A 2-0 win for Motherwell last time
Laing did not do himself justice during his 45 minute contribution at right back in the Aberdeen game and if Law is fit the defence will be more stable with his presence. Ainsworth may be benched if we are to find room for Lasley, Pearson, Cadden and Johnson in midfield.
With top six wins against Aberdeen and Ross County already achieved the Saints will come confident that fourth place in within reach. MacLean and Wotherspoon offer the greatest goal threat and the pair have already scored three times against us this season.
Motherwell were short of pace at Pittodrie and a more energetic performance will be needed if the good form of recent weeks is to return. If we can find that extra yard then a spirited contest could provide a fitting end to Fir Park’s season. Our home league form is W8 D3 L7, we can improve that with a 2-1 win.
