McGhee and McIntyre will be aware of the prize money that comes as a result of a fifth rather than sixth place finish but both will be keen to explore possibilities for next season in this week’s fixtures.
Ross County have taken six points from the three previous encounters with Motherwell managing only one when Moult’s goal in added time levelled the game at Fir Park in September. While Motherwell enjoyed a recovery in the spring rising from 11th to 4th, County’s form dipped and they have only one win in the last seven.
Goodwillie, on loan from Aberdeen, scored a late equaliser against Hearts at the weekend to open his account. That goal might earn him a start as McIntyre considers whether to offer him terms for next season. They have plenty of striking options to keep our defence busy.
Our manager has suggested that as senior players have earned the right to play he would have difficulty in testing a few of our upcoming prospects. Nevertheless most Motherwell fans expect a new face or two to be given game time before the season’s end.
Our hosts are two points adrift and it could be that a point might keep us in fifth place after the final game. Can either side score? Maybe not, 0-0.
