Next up - Rangers

The high scoring draw at Fir Park on Wednesday night ensured that the fight for fourth place continues to this final match.  We need to have a result which is no worse that Hibs earn at Tannadice to maintain our one point advantage and that is not going to be easy.

We can take no confidence from our recent trips to Govan, our last point at Ibrox came in 2007 and we conceded six earlier this season.   Nevertheless, the players have to make one last effort to secure a heroic finish.

A rare treat - 'Well fans celebrate at Ibrox

Jennings will be back in the midfield having served his one match suspension and his fresh legs will provide a much needed boost.  Jutkiewicz is said to be fit despite limping for much of Wednesday’s game.    We’ll await with interest to discover if Craig Brown starts with O’Brien.  The winger has signed a pre-contract agreement with Barnsley.

Rangers will miss ex-Motherwell McCulloch as he pays the price for his red card last weekend.  McGregor and Bougherra will miss out but Papac is due to return after his recent misdemeanours.  Much will depend on whether the home side have their minds set on their summer holidays or whether they want to impress their fans ahead of the trophy presentation.

The few hundred Motherwell fans who brave the unwelcoming atmosphere will count every passing minute at 0-0 as a minor victory and with half an ear on the news from Tannadice it will be a tense afternoon.   But it is unlikely that we’ll be leaving the stadium happy in the knowledge that we have spoiled the party.  A 2-0 defeat and the hope that United win the cup is far more likely.
