Our former gaffer bemoaned his side’s performance against Dundee United last week calling it “unacceptable” as he apologised to fans. Since they won the Ne’erday derby only one victory has come their way in seven attempts. Their defence has been shipping goals for fun with the home support suffering the loss of 14 in the last 4 outings. No surprise then to hear Terry Butcher letting off some steam.
Target practice last time at Easter Road
Taiwo saw red in that last game and he’ll be missing from their midfield. Also unavailable are Robertson, Tudur Jones and Watmore. Their fans expect changes on Saturday but there is little expectation that their poor home form will change. Let’s hope that view is correct.
Motherwell fans will have to wait for the now familiar ‘injury bulletin’ before we take a view on our starting eleven. We’ll have to hope that a week free of midweek action delivered a beneficial healing period. Meanwhile Hollis will be expected to retain his place between the sticks following his winning return against Hearts.
The big surface at Easter Road should encourage an open passing game and our players have shown a willingness to make the best such circumstances. We were last in Leith in August between our Europa League ties with the Russians. On that occasion Anier stole the points with a quality goal to open his SPFL account. His tally is now seven the same as Ainsworth while Sutton has fourteen to his credit.
Another first goal gave us a second 1-0 win over Hibs when they were at Fir Park in November. McManus scored with a first half header to start his ‘Well account that now stands at three (same as McFadden). Can we keep the pattern going? Let’s make it a hat-trick with a third 1-0 win.
