Motherwell’s form in recent weeks suggests that there should be no fear of facing Celtic on our own patch. We are riding high with six wins from the last seven and mindful of the 2-1 win at Parkhead earlier in the campaign. Our manager has demonstrated his ability to adjust shape and personnel when needed and he’ll be aware of the threats posed by the opposition.
After last week’s win McGhee made it clear that his plan was to focus on this game as the route to the top six rather than to look for favours from others in midweek. Let’s hope that the players show the same resolve.
We finished the game in Inverness in gung-ho fashion with five forwards pushing for the win but Saturday’s line-up will be less aggressive. Pearson is unavailable but otherwise the manager should have free rein.
Celtic, despite their overpowering wealth and resources, have not impressed. Shaky defence and over reliance on a prolific goalscorer have not helped their cause. Griffith has 30 goals to his name but he has not scored in a month.
Deila knows that any points lost will increase the growing dissatisfaction in the Celtic support. There will be lots of pressure on the visitors and we can exploit that.
The 1230 kick-off will cause a disruption to the normal match day routines for players and fans. If we can win or draw it will prevent a nervous afternoon as we follow the fortunes of St Johnstone, Partick Thistle and Dundee. A spirited 2-2 outcome will allow the corks to be popped.
Remember the last time Celtic were at Fir Park?
