Our recent record against Aberdeen is superb with our last defeat coming in November 2008. Stuart McCall has bested Craig Brown twice at Fir Park already but a triumph at Pittodrie all the way back in February was one of the first indications he was beginning to turn things round. Since then we have finished in the top six, reached the cup final and stormed to third in this season's SPL. Aberdeen continue to scramble in the lower half of the table and dissenting voices are emerging against Craig Brown.
A good day in Aberdeen
Indeed, should Inverness pick up a better result than Aberdeen this weekend (which is admittedly unlikely) the Dons will find themselves stuck to the bottom of the league and Brown may well be picking up his pension rather than wages in the near future. The nature of football fans means the Motherwell support, even if we lose on Saturday, will have a good giggle at the grass not being greener. But that should not distract from the job done by Stuart McCall and his players who have earned plenty of praise in their own right.
Along with Saunders and McHugh missing out with injury, Clancy is suspended which means Hateley to the right of Hutchinson and Craigan would seem likely. In Stephen Hughes we have signed a potentially excellent player for the SPL but it would be a surprise if he starts immediately. Lasley, Jennings and Law are surely completely safe in their spots but Humphrey, Murphy and Higdon will be aware they could now miss out in a reshuffle, even if Hughes is not likely to replace any of them directly.
It is always very risky to be openly confident when heading to venues like this but the current strength of the teams can be seen in black and white on the league table. It may well be a tough 90 minutes but we can be hopeful of coming out on top with a 2-1 win.
Remember our last trip to Pittodrie?
