Next up - St Mirren

There is nothing surer in football than unbeaten runs will come to an end at some point and anything less than our best could put us in trouble against a St Mirren side who currently rival us for the title of ‘surprise package’.  They have been excellent so far as well with notable signings Teale and Thompson making a big difference but Hasselbaink, who has also impressed, is in line to be suspended unless an appeal against his Tannadice red card succeeds.

From our point of view the team will be tested as Lasley is banned – with no hope of appeal – from the middle of the park.  Forbes is the more senior alternative to join Jennings but Carswell, though younger, would seem like the more direct replacement.  Humphrey, Murphy and Law should all provide us with pace and creativity, especially on the break away from home, while Higdon offers more of a fixed target.  He has not yet found the net in claret and amber and a goal here, against his former employer, would be especially welcome.

Our record away to St Mirren has been dismal since they move to Greenhill Road and though we have picked up a few points, we have only one win to our name at this venue.  It is more than time to improve that statistic and a 1-0 triumph may be enough to keep us at the top of the table for one more week.
