Of course, no one is taking talk of championships seriously but topping the table certainly lifts the morale among the support if only briefly. Everyone will now be in good spirits making the journey down the A77 but we are likely to face a tricky challenge against Kilmarnock.
Not only did they cuff us in our last trip to Ayrshire, they made a good start to their own campaign with a draw at Tannadice last weekend. However, they have not yet won under new manager Kenny Shiels, despite several attempts, and will be somewhat anxious as they look to put that right.
Handshakes before the last game in Kilmarnock
Killie have lost Hamill, Taouil, Eremenko and Bryson in summer which following the departure of Sammon in January means they are far from the side which did so well last season. Whether or not the new players can maintain previous standards remains to be seen.
For our part we seem to have a full squad available – limited as that may be – with Forbes returning from a ban and no one declared injured. We will rely on Higdon providing the physical presence but with Law, Humphrey and Murphy all involved in goals last week, the creative department has hit the ground running.
This likely to be a tight encounter but we have every reason to be confident and if we can replicate our form of last weekend we may well return home celebrating a 2-0 victory.
