Peter Houston’s charges will be buoyed by their weekend win in Dingwall. Goals from Russell and Armstrong overturned the lead that Ross County established in the second half and the manager lauded his player’s determination. The news that Mackay-Steven will be missing from the left wing for several weeks will be a disappointment but it might lighten the mood for Hateley in Motherwell’s back line.
Hateley has a crack
Following our spectacular goal spree in Inverness the drab 0-0 with Hearts on Saturday was a bit of a letdown. The visitors’ tactics set the tone for the match and the game suffered as a result. Stuart McCall was happy to point out that we had achieved our first clean sheet since the SPL opener. We can be sure that United will be keen to attack and as a result there should be an open game with the play swinging from one end to the other.
Motherwell have cast aside the supposed dread of away fixtures and our players will be looking to add to this season’s 14 points on the road. There have been no reports of injuries following Saturday’s game and we can expect to see the same eleven for the third successive fixture.
United got the better of us at Fir Park three weeks ago when a single goal separated the sides. We’ll be under the floodlights again on Tuesday looking to redress the balance. Our hosts have a big derby match at the end of the week and while it may not distract the players it certainly seems to be the main topic of conversation with their supporters.
If we are to avoid dip into the bottom half of the table a loss has to be avoided but a return to goal scoring form in should see us delight in a 2-0 victory.
