At Cappielow we used an astonishing 21 players which was possibly a good move given how recently we resumed pre-season training. However, we will be wanting to move towards a more traditional workout this time and it is likely the substitutions will be cut down to give the senior players a longer run out.
Darren Randolph and Stevie Jennings did not feature at Morton they will hope to make their first appearances but most fans will be watching out for Nicky Law and Michael Higdon. This pair both did reasonably well in their debuts and they will look to build on that now – Higdon in particular will be anxious to find the net.
The defence is also going to come under scrutiny as having conceded two goals to Morton – and a good few more chances – and McCall will be expecting much better from then now. It was a strong back four which lined up last time but Hateley may be moved to full back if Jennings takes over in the midfield.
This is hardly an exciting game but it does give the players another useful work out and the fans have a rare chance to visit Dumbarton. But it can’t beat the real thing which is now only two weeks away.
