Motherwell on the road to Pittodrie

Wednesday’s Youth Cup triumph put big smiles on the faces of everyone at Fir Park and the seniors can complete a great week if they can get a result this weekend.  Our last visit to the Granite City saw a team revitalised under the newly appointed Mark McGhee unlucky not to take more than a point as they pushed for the win in the closing stages.  There’s no reason to believe they will return empty handed.

With seven wins from the last nine outings Motherwell are the in-form team.  Aberdeen’s slim hope of putting any sort of pressure on Celtic disappeared with three losses in their last four.  The dip started when late goals from McDonald and Moult turned the game at Fir Park last month and losses on the road to Hearts and St Johnstone ended their challenge.

Happy memories...Pittodrie May 2014

Rooney and Pawlett are still unavailable for the Dons but with Hayes and Church in the team they will not lack goal threat.  Their desperate defending will surely give us an opportunity.

Pearson will be hoping for a return after his recovery and it may be that the exertions of Cadden on the Hampden pitch will give the manager an easy swap for the starting midfield position.  There are several players who will be keen to impress as contract renewal time fast approaches and there should be no evidence of end of season fatigue.

Honours are even in the three earlier matches, each side has a win and a draw to their credit.  An away point is rarely a disappointment and there may be another with a 2-2 on Saturday.

Remember our last trip to Pittodrie?
