The import of Vigurs, Lawson, Neilsen, Sutton and Kerr together with those who remain on the books from previous campaigns has given the management duo the rudiments of next season’s team. A spell in the training camp should help to define the plan for the way ahead.
When they return, a busy series of warm up games awaits. On July 13 they have a 3pm kick off in Doncaster before Newcastle United come to Fir Park on the evening of Tuesday 16th. A trip to the seaside follows for a 2pm kick off in Morecambe on the 20th then Billy Davies and his Nottingham Forest team arrive for a Friday night game on July 26.
We’ll know our Europa League draw before that last friendly at the end of the long weeks without any competitive game will be over. The huge turnover of players makes it impossible to predict how we’ll fare. Maybe it’s that uncertainty that adds delight when, as in recent seasons, the team has performed so well.
It can’t come soon enough.
