Motherwell and Celtic last played each other in the League Cup in February 2006 when we lost 2-1.

We qualified for the knockout stage by finishing strongly in Group F. Following the 2-0 defeat to Rangers the team enjoyed 3-1, 3-0 and 3-0 victories over Annan Athlectic, East Stirlingshire and Stranraer earning 9 points and a healthy +6 goal difference. Progress was assured but our seeded status was lost.
The manager seems pleased enough with the development of the squad through the first four fixtures. Fitness levels appear to be at expected levels despite the need to prepare for games rather. He has made mention of the need to restrain the usual pre-season training to make way for match day preparation.
Now all the focus has to be on the first league game of the season at Rugby Park on Saturday.
