Motherwell and Rangers Reserves Draw a Blank

McLean was rarely troubled during this game which was short of action. He coped well with high balls but there was little else to occupy him as the Rangers strikeforce caused us little discomfort.

There was not much in the way of goalmouth action at either end of the park in the first half.

McCormack looked lively and he had a couple of efforts inside the first ten minutes but nothing close. Malloy was the other bight spark and his play from right midfield set up a few promising moves.

The best play of the half came late when Maguire passed to McCormack at the corner of the box. He moved along the line and set up Fitzpatrick with the chance of a fair shot but the effort was blocked.

The second period saw a few changes as both coaches tried to find a way to goal.

Darren Smith came close when he found himself with the ball at his feet well inside the box after an hour but his attempt aimed at the far post went wide. Kenneth Connolly had a powerful drive blocked and within a minute his peach of a pass released McCormack but the striker shot at the keeper.

McLean clears

We almost nicked the game in tha last minute when Malloy's fierce shot from a very tight angle struck the underside of the bar with the keeper beaten. The ball failed to cross the line and bounced high. Darren Smith threw himself towards the loose ball but the defence had regrouped enough to clear the danger.

The game served to keep several for the first team squad on their toes but there was little else to be gained from the encounter.
