Morton 24h On

A couple of players deserve a special mention for their efforts against Morton. McDonald produced another class display despite the ‘devastation' he suffered at having a move to Ibrox rejected. It seems to be accepted that he will be allowed to leave in the summer (subject to a sensible offer arriving) and he knows that he has to produce the goods until than to keep his name in the shop window. The cup tie against St Johnstone should bring back some memories for Skippy. He made his debut for us at McDiarmid Park in a cup tie, coming on as a second half substitute. He scored the third goal!

Mark Reynolds looked cool, calm and collected as he and his fellow centre defender took care of the energetic attentions of the Morton attack. He popped up time and time again to snuff out any threat and the success of the defending can be measured by the fact that Smith had a fairly quiet time in goal. He will give Malpas a real problem in terms of team selection when Brian McLean becomes available.

A crowd approaching nine and a half thousand for a Motherwell v Morton game is very impressive. It's nice to see that the ground can seem packed and full of atmosphere without the presence of either of the Old Firm. Morton and their fans will be an asset to the First Division.

The win should ensure a few smiles at training this week and should ensure that we are in good heart for next weekend's trip to Falkirk. Their new stadium has been a happy hunting ground for us and there is no reason to expect that we should come away empty handed. Another professional performance will deliver the goods.
