Our manager-to-be took charge of Tuesday's 1-0 defeat against Northern Ireland in front of 200 spectators and will return for his final game of the season on Friday at Kilmarnock against Turkey. Paul Quinn got a start but a second half goal extended the recent good form of the home side. David Clarkson started on the bench and will hope to be tested on Friday.
The U21s face a tough pair of games early next season when they face Slovenia and France in the UEFA qualifiers.
Meanwhile the U19 side is in Belarus for three games inside a week in the final round of qualifiers for the UEFA Under 19 Championship. Mark Reynolds Motherwell's representative in this squad. A 2-1 win agains Belarus sets them up nicely for games against Bulgaria on Thursday and France on Saturday. Only the group winners qualify for the finals.
