Pre-season friendlies can be dire at the best of times but if you put them into context there are not so bad. There is no pressure to get a result so it doesn't matter if we're crap, it's a good chance to see some mates again after the break and it's an excuse (possibly) to turn up in shirt sleeves which is always a pleasant surprise in Scotland. In terms of this game specifically we are taking on Millwall who should be roughly around the same level as us even if a little further back in their warm up schedule.
We might get an interesting insight to some of McGhee's early thoughts on the players. Who will partner Porter in attack? Who will be on the wings? Who will be left back? There are plenty of questions but few answers at this point in time. Even if McGhee does give some hints this weekend it doesn't mean anything is set in stone. There are other friendlies for further experimentation while new players could still arrive before the season starts.
Brian McLean is likely to be missing and Phil O'Donnell will be out as well. Other than that we should have nearly a full squad to choose from although Molloy and Keegan are presumably suffering from knocks or they are so far out of contention they might as well be back in Ireland.
Millwall carry the distinction of being one of Mark McGhee's old clubs from when he was managing in England so their fans, if they needed any encouragement, may add a little spice to the occasion. The result doesn't really matter but we've been fairly optimistic so far this summer so let's continue like that now - 2-1 to the 'Well.
