Continuity in the Motherwell hot seat has been a rarity in the last decade. Since the departure of Terry Butcher in 2006 we've had spells from Malpas, McGhee, Gannon and Brown - with varying degrees of success. If McCall completes the new deal that should commit him until the summer of 2015, a four and a half year spell in charge.
The highlights of his rein to date have been the cup final appearance in 2011, a 100% record of top six league finishes and 10 games in European competition including our debut in the Champions League. His ability to source players from south of the border has been a particular strength and we can only hope that he spots a few more gems as next season's plans are made.
His decision to stay will give encouragement to that band of senior players who become free agents at the end of this season. Allied to the strong chance that we will have another European adventure in July/August he'll be able to put a strong case to them. All that 's needed now is a decent playing budget! That's in the hands of the fans - more clicks at the Fir Park turnstiles will give the club more room for McCall's fighting fund.
March has been a good month for 'Well fans. We're unbeaten in the league, a top six finish is guaranteed, we've enjoyed the first Faddy goal in ten years and now the manager has agreed a contract extension. Can we finish it off with a win in Dundee?
December 2010 - He's Signed!
