Maurice Malpas - Motherwell Manager
Last updated : 17 May 2006 By Firparkcorner
Maurice joined us in February 2004 after the reshuffle caused by the departure of George Adams. Mo had been released by Dundee United after a few seasons as assistant manager. His long (1981-2000) playing record with them exceeded six hundred games.
His public face at Fir Park has been as the quiet assistant to the larger than life personality of Terry Butcher but our former manager has never been anything but fulsome in his praise for the man who takes over his hot seat.
Maurice moves to the new job at a busy time. He was in charge of the Scotland U21 team in Northern Ireland on Tuesday evening and he'll be preparing them for a game against Turkey at Kilmarnock on Friday. There should be no problem with him combining both jobs in future and it is a testament to his reputation as a coach that the SFA have entrusted him with the position.
No announcement was made about the position of assistant manager but Chris McCart confirmed that he would remain in the same post.
