And given our previous record against Livingston, coupled with our terrible form, it seem that a defeat is likely. This will be our seventh competitive game against ‘The Franchise’ and so far we have drawn one and lost six. We played well in some games and deserved more, played rotten in others and received what we deserved. Will there be a change in fortunes this time?
A lot will depend on the result of the SPL vote on Friday. The atmosphere inside Fir Park is never electric at the best of times and if we are staring into the First Division it will not be a party occasion. A reprieve will lighten the mood substantially and some unfeasible optimism might help cheer the players onto a victory. The atmosphere may be improved by the Livvy musical section but hopefully we maintain our policy of banning the annoying drummer.
On the pitch, we will be missing Derek Adams and Dirk Lehmann through suspension and Tony Vaughan has returned to Nottingham Forest. It would be fitting if Stevie Woods was given the start in goals to allow him to wave goodbye to the fans. Regardless of your opinion of Woods’ abilities, he has been a loyal servant to the club and deserves a good send off. Speaking of saying cheerios, it looks increasingly likely that James McFadden will be making his last appearance in a Motherwell jersey. His trickery has been a joy to behold in his short career and there is no doubt that without his goals and creativity, this season would have been much worse.
Livingston have announced which players they will be releasing and are already in the process of building for next season. Hopefully this will mean that a few kids get a game and the older pros are already enjoying the beach. This probably won’t make much difference to the result though as, let’s face it, we couldn’t beat a drum.
There have been a lot of good memories this season but ultimately it is one we are looking to forget. Faddy will leave us with a last goal in a fairly drab 1-1 draw.
