We almost scraped a point. It would have been ill deserved but welcome nevertheless.
Butcher (honest, as ever) said: "I don't think we deserved anything today. We raised our game against Rangers, yet we have not been able to match a team in the same area of the table as ourselves.”
"We built our supporters up for today and they were here in good numbers and then we went on to let them down. This performance was a pale shadow of the one against Rangers. The confidence and spirit was very high but it was a shocking goal to lose at the very end. We should have simply tried to clear the danger”
Where was the spark? Where was the urgency? Where was the guile? Why did it take almost an hour for the team to react to Andrews was winning every long ball?
Enough of the gloom. There is a bright side.
As Eddiesteelman posted on the FPC board, “Sure today was a sore one. And we could all blame Hammell or some others for mistakes and poor performances. However, how many of you guys thought we'd take eight points out of the last five games given who they were against, and our previous record in those fixtures? Prior to that Hearts game I had us down for certain 12th spot, now we have a fighting chance to avoid it. I'm a great believer in looking at things in groups of games rather than individually, and this group ends on Thursday. So played five, won two, drawn two doesn't look bad to me. Against Thistle we will be desperate for a win, but it's so important not to lose as they would then be out of sight. Anyway Happy New Year, and not many of us thought we'd still be here to say that in April.”
Well said that man, let’s get right behind the team on Thursday
