It was hardly a surprise to learn of the captain’s decision to continue his long spell at Motherwell. His contribution in recent years has belied the march of time and we will benefit from his experience in the months ahead. His progress through UEFA training courses is already delivering results with the U20s and the Academy and that side of his work is likely to grow.
Players are about to return to their pre-season rituals and we await decisions from Hammell, McDonald and McFadden (sooner rather than later gentlemen?).
Talk in the papers suggests that Pearson may depart for a second spell in the India Super league. Before rejoining Motherwell 18 months ago he was on the books of Kerala Blasters. Whispers also mention that there may be interest in Ainsworth. Whether that is a kite flown by his agent remains to be seen.
Dean Brill was reported to be close to signing. The former Inverness ‘keeper would vie with Samson for the number one jersey. Elsewhere we have been linked with Chester defender Ben Heneghan. The 22 year old would fill the gap created by the departure of Ben Hall.
