Kilmarnock Preview

The easiest thing for us to do would be to go out and win the game. Even a point is enough to ensure Inverness cannot catch us. The added bonus we have – due to our late goals against Rangers and resolute defending on Tuesday – is our goal difference advantage of four. We have also scored more than Inverness so unless they score like there’s no tomorrow, not only do they need to make up the three points but they also have to hope for a five goal swing.

Action from our last win against Killie
Whilst we have struggled against Kilmarnock this season, surely one more result is not beyond us?

Having said that, if we are capable of playing well against Kilmarnock we have not shown it this season. We were slightly unlucky in the game at Fir Park to be fair but our brace of two goal defeats at Rugby Park were dire. Killie simply used their superior pace and strength to push us around and outrun us. We showed absolutely no hint of being able to stop them. Will anything change this time? Well, yes. Barry John Corr will definitely come in for the suspended Gordon Marshall but there will be outfield changes as well. Martyn Corrigan may return from compassionate leave and Kevin McBride is almost certain to be out – he’s likely to be replaced by Brian Kerr. But our main problem will be Scott McDonald. He’s out with a hamstring injury and has been our most dangerous threat in front of goal for most of the season. David Clarkson is having a nightmare of a season so the choice is probably between Foran and Britton. Richie has not had many chances to play in his preferred striking position but Terry may feel that the size and presence of Gerry Britton is a better option. Decisions, decisions!

As for Kilmarnock, their season is already over with only honour left to play for in their last six games. The reaction of their players on Saturday might be to show they can play and deserve to be kept for next season or they could already be at the beach and given they have only managed six points from their last thirty, that might be the case.

Can we do it? We’ve been in the top six since our win at Tynecastle on November 20 and it would be heart breaking to fall with the line in sight. It will be edgy but we’ll do it, 2-0 Motherwell.
