Kevin Pleads his Case

He is widely quoted in the Boxing Day papers making a sound case for young players to develop though clubs like Motherwell rather than have their development stifled by the Old Firm’s reluctance to blood home grown talent.

“I want to stay here and play for Motherwell. Hopefully something will be sorted out soon. I'm enjoying first team football and it would be hard to go back to sitting in the stand at Parkhead.

Motherwell offers kids a great chance to progress. Lads like James McFadden and Stephen Pearson have gone on to bigger clubs and I've no doubt Stevie would be a good player for Celtic if they sign him next month.

It's actually easier to play for the Old Firm by moving from a smaller club like Well rather than trying to break through the club's own youth system.”

It is interesting that he mentions the possibility of Hammell moving in the opposite direction. No doubt there has been talk in the dressing room about the forthcoming transfer window and the possibility of a swap must have been discussed.

Kevin is just regaining match fitness after missing several weeks with a nasty injury but his early form will have convinced Terry Butcher that he would be a good addition to the squad. The manager reported last week that he will be talking to Celtic about making the move permanent.

A goal of two from the winger at Ibrox would strengthen his case no end!
