With Black in position McCall’s team is complete and the management team can set about restoring some form and confidence to our threadbare team.
Kenny is best known for his long spells with Hearts and Airdrie where he also had managerial duties but he did have a short spell at Fir Park. Bobby Watson signed him in December 1983 in a swap plus cash deal with Rangers. Nicky Walker went to Ibrox and we got two Kennys (Black and Lyall) and a fee in return. Black played seventeen games in claret and amber that season but we finished bottom of the league and were relegated. Kenny was transferred to Hearts as we cut our cloth for the battle to regain top league status.
His long association with Airdrie started in 1991 and he made more than 250 appearances for them before a short spell at Raith Rovers. He returned to the reformed Airdrie United and eventually managed them in their decline after a spell at Leicester as a coach under Craig Levein.
He joined the Scotland management staff in the summer of 2010 and had some responsibility for spotting our future stars south of the border. Motherwell will hope that his notebook will be of use in our desperate hunt for players ahead of the closure of the transfer window in a fortnight.
We welcome him back to Motherwell and hope that he can forge a long, happy and successful partnership with Stuart McCall.
