It's Tight at the Bottom!

By mid February it all seemed cut and dried as far as we were concerned. We were fifteen points ahead of the Pars and we had two games in hand. At that time they had gone thirteen games without a league win.

By the time May Day arrived the gap between Motherwell, now in tenth place, and the bottom had been reduced to eight. All concerned have played thirty five games and only three remain. Three games left.

Regardless of the great effort made by
Dunfermline (four wins from the last five) it is plain that any embarrassment which may arise is of our own making. Motherwell have won only one game in the last ten, one of those was the dreadful cup defeat at the hands of St Johnstone. Those who saw our gutless showing at Inverness or the mistakes from "defenders dropped from the moon" will not be surprised at out current position.

Despite the gloom, the fact is that we are unlikely to drop to twelfth place. We'll scramble a point somewhere or Dunfermline will stutter. St Mirren will also have their part to play in settling the season. They have seen a lead shrink to a solitary point so while we can take no comfort, the pressure at Love Street must be building.

It might be an interesting evening at East End Park on Monday.
