A look at the league table reveals a four point difference between Motherwell in 10th and St Johnstone in 9th place. If we are to engage in the mid-table competition then the gap has to be closed and the relegation zone left far behind. The determination that carried us to the first win in seven against Dundee United a fortnight ago will have to be on show at the Caledonian Stadium. There’s no reason to expect anything less.
Team selection is likely to be close to the previous outing though the return of Hammell would cause a minor rearrangement. Erwin should be available to the squad again and the suspension list is empty.
The first quarter of the season has seen much success for our hosts. Inverness share top spot with Celtic and they have yet to suffer a home loss (5 wins and 2 draws). John Hughes has gradually imposed his own style over recent months and it appears to be delivering results.
His team won 2-1 at Fir Park in August and he’ll be familiar with our current squad – Hughes and Latapy were in the stand at McDiarmid Park on our recent visit.
Although Draper(suspended) and Foran will be missing there will be a strong team on hand. Watkins and McKay will keep our defence busy. At the back the ICT rearguard has conceded only 11 times in 13 outings, the second best defensive record so far. We’ll need Sutton, Ojamaa and Co. to be at their best.
Our last trip to Inverness produced a 2-1 victory in April and a repeat would be a massive boost. On the other hand we might be happy with an away point after a 1-1 draw!
