There was no attempt to hide behind any waffle, not that McCall makes a habit of that, but a frank assessment of the display that led inevitably to a defeat.  It doesn’t take long for the fans’ hopes and dreams to take a dive as the season stutters into life.

There’s little benefit to be had by wallowing in a needless blame game.  Our league form has been excellent in the last few years and there’s every chance that by Christmas we’ll look back on the shaky start to the season a blip.  We have half a team on the sidelines and a couple of new faces catching up on their pre-season training.  Things can only get better!

Kick off in the wind & rain

Thankfully we have a clear week to prepare for the trip to the new surface in Kilmarnock and the virtual certainty that we will improve.

There was sympathy for Ferguson’s home debut in the first team.  He was cruelly exposed at right back and looked uncomfortable for most of the game.  Inverness, quite rightly, made the best of their chance down that flank but the defender can be pleased with his goal saving block from Christie midway through the first half.

Ojamaa’s introduction at half time was an admission that a different approach was needed if we were to salvage anything from the game.  It was a lot to place on the Estonian’s shoulders and  apart from a couple of surges and a few tricks on the ball he made no impact.  We’ll have to hope that he and his new team-mate O’Brien get up to speed soon.

The appearance of Vigurs for the last twenty minutes suggests that he may be able to start next week.  The midfield needs his influence.  Ainsworth, withdrawn at half time at Tannadice, is another who played despite a nagging injury.

The last word goes to the manager, “We’ve got to make sure we improve, and with the character of the players in there I’m very confident we will improve, but we need to start doing it quickly. We need to find form individually, there are a lot of individuals nowhere near the level they were at last season, and we’ve got to get it up.”
