Motherwell’s league campaign has come to a sudden halt. We haven’t scored a goal in the SPL in over 400 minutes of play and our squad is shrinking by the day. Just to add to our woes the weather has punished our beautiful new pitch and it looked like a poor sodden mess.
Our new manager doesn’t have his troubles to seek. In his fortnight in charge he has seen, Gow, Blackman, Fitzpatrick, and now Reynolds leave. Saunders is injured and now Lasley has a hamstring problem. He has a big test ahead.
The loss of Mark Reynolds to Sheffield Wednesday has been long expected but nevertheless we’ll miss him. He racked up over 200 games for Motherwell and has been a mainstay in our defence since the days of Terry Butcher. He provided the pace in central defence and even chipped in with the odd goal. He goes with the best wishes of all Motherwell fans and we’ll be keeping an eye on his progress south of the border.
We are fortunate that we have an able replacement on hand. Shaun Hutchison has served his time in waiting and deserves his chance as a regular first team player. He has the build and athleticism needed for the defensive job and young enough legs to help Craigan out when needed.
The manager said after the game that he hopes to have a couple of players added to the squad before the game against Hibs next week. In particular he’s after a striker, a left winger and a defender. Let’s hope he unearths a few gems.
