That achievement was matched by Higdon, Murphy, Cummins, Ojamaa and Daley in the bright winter sunshine in front of the TV cameras. As often happens when a team scores a bundle, it could easily have been more. Despite the poor returns collected in the last few weeks it has not been for the want of chances. On Sunday we cashed in, big time.
The return of Hutchinson gave a boost to our defence and we looked comfortable – apart from the blip that gave Foran a goal in the first minute of the second half. His attacking presence at set pieces is also welcomed but it was his back line partner who ended the game with the bigger smile.
A lovely day in Inverness!
Cummins scored his first senior goal, our third, with a well taken strike from close range following Hateley’s cross. There was also some extra delight when Ojamaa scored his long overdue first goal of the season. He has had so many opportunities and thoroughly deserved to break his duck.
Last season we collected more points on our travels than at Fir Park and it would appear that this campaign is going the same way. With fourteen games played to date Motherwell have taken only six points at home compared to fourteen away. That’s a staggering difference and one that suggests that we need to improve home form.
The next chance to restore the balance will come on Saturday when Hearts come to Fir Park. It will be another lunchtime kick off at the behest of $ky and if we can keep up the high conversion rate then another happy weekend will lie ahead.
