The season ended with Motherwell on the wrong end of a five goal second half in Inverness.  Happily our league status had already been secured and we finished the campaign in ninth place.

For the first hour the game was level.  Both teams had gone through the motions but a combination of stout defences and poor finishing suggested that a goalless draw was on the cards.  News that Hamilton had a comfortable lead seemed to take the sting out of the home side and their crowd lost early enthusiasm.

Then we collapsed.

It was as spectacular as is was unexpected.  Three goals conceded in four minutes.  Robinson, somewhat unfairly, laid the collapse at the feet of second half substitute Adam Livingstone and his young colleagues.   The manager also delivered an unnecessary rant at "some of our players who celebrated at 3-2 down instead of scrapping for the ball and trying to get back into the game".  He went on to suggest that attitude might be an explanation for our poor season.

The reality was that everyone in the stadium (with the apparent exception of Robinson) recognised that Bowman's penalty was the last action of the game.  Added time had been played out and it was no surprise to hear Craig Thomson's final whistle immediately after the restart.

The highlight of the afternoon was Faddy's goal. His appearance seemed to be nothing more than an opportunity for a fan's favourite to close out his playing career.  We were three down and, in effect, playing a friendly. It was a nice gesture - then he popped up to score with his first touch.  The goal, of course, was scored in front of the Motherwell fans.  You couldn't make it up.

So now we face weeks of the close season.  Interest will turn to the ins and outs as the managers oversees the re-build.  Let's hope the team that starts the new campaign can improve the entertainment offered in 2016/17.
