Many people predicted Hibs would have a hard time this year but even they would be surprised at the Easter Road side losing their first four games. The ‘goals against’ column tells its own story – thirteen conceded so far – and they share the record of worst defence in Britain with Luton Town.

Motherwell fans are having a nervous time about James McFadden in the week running up to transfer deadline day and Hibs fans are experiencing similar emotions about Gary O’Connor. The two differences in these situations are that clubs seem willing to splash £2m or so on the Hibs man and he (judging by press comments) would gladly jump on a bus to Glasgow or Birmingham.
At the moment, we have to believe that Faddy will stay although until he’s seen in claret and amber on Saturday, most fans will not be certain. His usual strike partner, Dirk Lehmann, is doubtful with a hamstring strain and this may give loan signing Steven Ferguson a chance to start. Our other recent signing, Graham Mathie, will not see the first team barring injuries or a loss of form by at least a couple of players. Kevin Gallacher will consider himself unlucky if he is not offered a contract by Huddersfield after a good performance and a goal against Preston reserves.
It is always crucial to win home games against teams below you and we must be looking for three points on Saturday. Hibs will rightly view this as a great chance to start their season and will come looking for the win. It will be tense but we should be hopeful of edging it 2-1.
Have a look at the previous record between the teams.
