Hearts Preview

Hearts will be disappointed that their European dreams are over for this year and it will be interesting to see their attitude to the game. Will they mentally be on holiday, will they play a team of kids or will Robbo be aware that another defeat will edge him closer to the sack? One player who will sadly miss out for Hearts is Jamie McAllistair. A good player but one who has struggled against us this year!

Foran got the winner in November
Team news is thin on the ground for us so far but it looks certain to be another patch work side. David Clarkson should be available for selection after his suspension but it would be surprising if Butcher risks any of the injured players with nothing at stake. Barry John Corr has been stating his case for a first team spot next season through the official website and he will feel harshly treated if he is dropped.

Also worth noting will be whether we return to our traditional 4-4-2. We experimented, probably out of necessity, with a 3-5-2 but we looked out of sorts. Butcher will either force a side into the 4-4-2 he clearly prefers but presumably he could also continue with the new formation for the sake of practice.

This season we have performed exceptionally well against Hearts although given the changed nature of our side, this won’t count for much on Saturday. It would be very good to complete a season full of wins against them but being realistic we’ll be happy with a point. It could come down to which team wants to win more or which team isn’t focussing on their close season break already.

The day is also going to be the first ‘claret and amber day’. Take as much claret and amber material as you can and you will also be issued with a handful of tifo roll when you go into the ground. Please listen carefully to the instructions about how and when to throw them! Timing is everything in this situation.

You can also continue the Motherwell-fest by popping into the FirParkCorner FC race night in Jack Daniels when you return to the ‘Shire – tickets are £3 and available at the door. A perfect way to celebrate the 1-1 draw we’ll get in the afternoon…
